Police in Bulambuli district has arrested the in charge of Bumageni Health Centre II on allegations of swindling Shs2.7 million.
Vicente Wamimbi was yesterday, 18th August 2022 arrested on orders of the Deputy Resident Commissioner Bulambuli district, Amili Kamba after he failed to account for the money which the district had earlier released to the Health Center.
According to Kamba the money was given to the health centre by the district for Covid-19 and Primary Health Care.
He told this website that the money was meant to pay village health teams (VHTs) allowances and doing some small activities at the health centre.
Kamba also says that the arrest follows complaints raised by the VHTs about not getting their allowances for now one year yet the money had already been released by the district.
Kamba says upon receiving the complaints he summoned Wamimbi to his office to explain where the money went. Kamba says Wamimbi attempted to convince him by presenting a list with forged signatures of VHTs claiming that he paid them the money and they signed.
“When I realized the list was forged, I ordered police to arrest him and he is currently being detained at Bulambuli central police station.” Kamba said.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, also confirmed thearrest saying that Wamimbi has already pleaded guilty and is willing to pay back the money.
He warned government officials against involving in corruption saying that the long arm of government will catch up with them.
