Bukedi region teams will be a no-show in the round of 16 of the Uganda cup as all the three clubs bowed out in a space of three days.
The latest victim being Busia Young that was eliminated by Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Football Club following a 2-1 away loss in the round of 32 stage at the Bombo Barracks Stadium on Thursday 13th February.
Denis Sekitoleko and Robert Nakyenalire were on target for Steven Bogere’s coached UPDF side.
UPDF’s goals arrived in the opening half and it would have been three had Nakyenalire not missed a penalty shot.
Rajab Kakaire’s successful kick from the penalty mark was the consolation for the visitors.
Tororo’s Admin appeared to have the biggest chance after drawing 1-1 at Star Times Stadium in Lugogo on Tuesday against the defending champions, Proline but the Cup holders Proline needed a 5-3 tense penalty shoot-out to beat the Eastern regional giants.
Hamis “Diego” Kiiza scored for Proline and Walter Alele headed home the equalizer for Admin inside in the final two minutes of the game.
Baker Mbowa’s coached side scored through Musitafa Mujjuzi, Brian Umony, Rogers Mato, Hamis Kiiza and James Begesa in the tense shoot out.
Vitus Obo, Allan Kirunda and Raymond Othieno got the three goals for Admin in the penalty shoot-out.
Proline goalkeeper, Hassan Matovu was the hero, saving Walter Alele’s weak kick.
On the same match day Tuesday, Wakiso Giants Football Club humiliated another Bukedi side, Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA) 5-0 in a one sided Uganda Cup round of 32 contest played at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
The newly promoted Uganda Premier League side, put behind their woes in the technical docket to easily register a promising home win without their head coach, Charles Livingstone Mbabazi.
Under interim coach Steven Bengo, Wakiso Giants beat MYDA 5-0 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
Hassan Wasswa Dazo scored a brace before Lawrence Bukenya, Amis Muwonge and veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma each added a goal.
Meanwhile, the only hope for Eastern Region lies in three big league sides as they await their fate in the round of 32 stage.
On Saturday, Bukedea Town Council shall have a long trip to the capital city to take on KCC at the star times stadium.
Two Mbale sides shall later on be in action on Sunday as Kiboga Young/Mbale Heroes hosts Mvara at the green surface of Mbale Municipal Stadium.
On the same day, coach Toldo’s coached Kataka FC side shall play away to Spartan football club at Mashariki grounds.
The winner of the Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
