BUGIRI: Government has committed Shs375 million towards tarmacking roads in Bugiri Municipal Council.
The Mayor Bugiri Municipal Council, Bumali Luba while speaking during this year’s budget conference held at Hindocha Primary School on Monday 8th April said the funds are to be used to tarmac 600 meters of Market Street Road and part of Musongola road.
Luba said Bugiri Municipal Council had earlier requisitioned for
Shs500 million from the road fund for construction of roads but
the funds were trimmed to Shs375 million which less than expected.
“We are looking for ways on how to increase on the money from the
local revenue because it cannot do whatever we expect, “he said.
He said Bugiri Municipal Council is to tarmac 1.5 kilometers of road
network before the end of the year.
Luba urged political leaders to mobilize people so that they pay taxes
promptly and regularly as a way of improving on the revenue
The Town Clerk Bugiri Municipal Council, Katunda Mukulu expressed
concern that the budget estimates had been altered by the committee
Mukulu said construction of a seed secondary school in Bugiri Municipal Council will help extend services to students who have
previously been moving for over three kilometers to attend lessons at the
nearest government aided school.
The Secretary for Finance, Singidi Salongo while presenting the budget
estimates said shillings 64 million will be used for construction of
staff houses for Naluwerere Primary School,14 million for construction
of drainage at Naluwerere Trading Center, while shillings 122 million
will be used towards funding the youth livelihood program.
Salongo said shillings70 million is to be utilized towards construction of a 6 class room block at Hindocha primary school, while 54 million will be spent on construction of a two stance pit latrine at Busanzi and Butambula primary schools.
Shillings 4,746,265,610 was presented as budget estimates for the
financial year 2019-2020.
