Leaders from Bugisu Sub region have drafted a memorandum highlighting their key demands.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected in the region tomorrow, Tuesday 24th November 2020.
Led by Marry Gorret Kitutu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development want their demands fulfilled when he goes through during 2021 general elections.
While speaking to hundreds of leaders from the six districts of Namisndwa, Manafwa, Bududa, Mbale, Sironko, and Bulambuli at Mbale resort hotel on Saturday 21st November, Kitutu said that Bugisu has failed to benefit much from NRM government like other regions due to lack of solidarity among leaders especially when the President is in the area.
She revealed that the purpose of the meeting was to bring all leaders from the region together and draft issues which they will present to the President during his campaigns in the region.
Denis Mwenyi, a Commissioner at the Office of the President In Charge Of Planning highlighted the key issues raised as; having Bugisu university, district hospital at Mbale and Manafwa district, Ministry of Bugisu affairs, more water gravity floor schemes, efficient electricity supply, tarmacking of Bududa- Bubolo road, installing tomato source factory among others.
He blamed Members of Parliament for failing to unite as one such that they can have one voice to the president when lobbying leaving the region behind in terms of developments.
Godfrey Nabutanyo, the legislator representing Lutsekhe County in Bududa district urged his fellow MPs and district leaders to follow up on the demands by reminding the President if elected
He adds that it will be meaningless if these demands are not followed up such that Bugisu can also benefit from the next government like other regions.
