The Bamasaba Cultural Institution and relatives of late Bob Mushikori, the fallen Umkhuka have failed to reach a mutual understanding on the burial site.
Speaking to this website yesterday, Mathis Nabuteri, the Deputy Prime Minister of Masaba Cultural Institution, said the Institution had suggested that the fallen Umukhuka be buried at Mutoto Cultural Site.
“Our proposal was to make his burial site, a tourist attraction since he would have become the first Bamasaba Cultural Leader to be buried there,” Nabuteri said.
Stephen Masaba, the Suwu clan leader rejected the idea arguing that Mutoto cultural land is currently embroiled in land wrangles with neighbors. Masaba said it is possible that Mutoto Cultural site may be removed from the Institution.
“We want the body buried at his ancestral home in Bududa such that his children can remember him also according to their culture,” Masaba said.
Living stone Tsawu, the clan leader of Mututa also an uncle of late Mushikori says that as a clan they are not ready to have their person be buried outside.
However, Dr. Dominic Woburoko, the Minister of Health at Masaba Cultural Institution has called on both sides to be calm and wait for the children of the late from abroad who are reaching next week before coming up with final decision on where the Umkhuka can be buried.
