Four Tororo Headteachers Arrested, DEO on The Run over 1.3 Billion UPE Funds Fraud

State House Anti-Corruption Unit working with Police is currently hunting for the Tororo district education officer Albert Odoi who is on run after he and other district officers have been accused of fraud.

Odoi and 6 others are being accused of conspiracy to defraud shillings 1.3 billion Universal Primary education capitation grant since 2019 to date.

According to the state house anti- Corruption unit spokesperson Emmanuel Bunya, the team is said to have opened a private account in a yet to be established bank where head teachers were forced to send not less than 500,000 in the said account per term.

Yesterday, 21st June, 2022, the State House Anti- corruption unit effected the arrest of 4 head teachers in Tororo district for running this parallel private account.

The arrested include, the president of Tororo head Teachers Association Irene Langa, and her cabinet members Okurut Michael Head teacher, Katono Monica head teacher Utro primary school, Sarah Namusware and John Ondege all Headteachers of yet to be established schools.

Among the other arrests were the Tororo district Internal Auditor Sarah Namugwere and her Deputy Wycliffe Zaharaya all accused of conspiracy to defraud.

Bunya told this website  that the six arrested were all given police bond to aid in investigations however the Tororo district education officer is on run and currently the team is doing all it takes to have him apprehended because he is the main suspect in the case.

The state house anti-corruption unit has so far apprehended more than 12 people in Tororo on corruption allegation charges within a period of 2 months.
