Government of Uganda under Police Mineral Protection Unit has started geological survey at Bugisu and Karamoja regions to identify places with minerals.

Moses Musinguzi, the head Eastern Region Police Mineral Protection Unit says that they are using drone airplanes to detect where minerals are.

Speaking to this website yesterday 7th April 2021, Musinguzi said the survey will take one and a half years in all the districts of Karamoja and Bugisu.

He revealed that after completing their work, Uganda Police Force will hand over a report to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development for mining to commence and possible compensation of affected persons living in the demarcated areas.

Jud Wadera, the Uganda People’s Defense Spokesperson Elgon/Bukedi region urged people from the two regions to be calm if they see the drones and simply continue with their daily works.

He added that the drones will be flying 100 meters above the ground meaning they will be near people’s houses.

Samuel Wanda and Stephen Watuwa both residents from Mbale district expressed their happiness with the exercise saying that this will add value on their land especially if minerals are discovered there.
