NRM’s Calvin Echodu has promised to buy an automatic changeover switch

The Soroti Regional Referral Hospital COVID-19 Focal Point Person has once again cried out to Teso leaders revealing that patients that require Intensive Care are living by God’s mercy.

Speaking to this reporter yesterday, 23rd November 2020, Dr. Wilson Etolu revealed that most of their patients who are at ICU are surviving on God’s mercy.

Dr. Etolu has appealed to Teso leaders to come together and support the treatment center if more lives are to be saved.

The isolation Center has lost over five people to the deadly virus in the last two weeks alone.

Meanwhile several others who could have been handled at the center if it had ICU equipment and reliable oxygen supply were transferred to Mulago regional referral Hospital.

Last week, this website reported how the center’s standby generator was faulty and did not have an automatic changeover switch.

An automatic changeover switch enables the generator to automatically come on when there is a power outage.

Dr. Etolu says, whereas most of their severe COVID-19 patients depend on oxygen for survival, the hospital is also faced with a challenge of the Oxygen Plant which is not connected to the generator.

He added that, most of the transferred patients also lost their lives while on transit or after reaching the facility.

On the other hand, Dr. Etolu says, the staff treating COVID-19 patients at Soroti Regional Hospital are to be vacated from the hotel where they are currently residing as their rent is meant to expire by the end of this month.

Dr. Etolu wondered where he was going to house the health workers because the hospital management has already assured them that they won’t be in position to facilitate their stay in the hotel for the next three months due to lack of finances.

Meanwhile, Charles Elasu, the Soroti District NRM Chairperson has now called on the Teso leaders to come to the rescue of the staff working at Soroti regional Referral Treatment Centre.

On a good note, the Soroti City East MP aspirant, Calvin Echodu who yesterday afternoon made a tour of the facility pledged to procure the five million automatic generator changeover switch for the facility in order to save the lives of the severe COVID-19 patients.

He says, whereas the Regional Hospital is faced with other serious needs, supporting the COVID-19 facility is more paramount as the COVID-19 cases spike in the region.
