The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Iganga has urged farmers to join government cluster program for improved yields from their farmlands.

Thomas Matende made this call while launching the Cypher Lacer pesticide at St. Peters Clever Primary School, Walugogo last week.

Matende noted that farmers are realising poor harvests because they still use archaic methods of farming.

“In this program, farmers are given improved quality seeds and fertilizers that guarantee bumper harvest on a good season, at a fair charge,” he said.

Senior Agricultural officer Iganga, Nantatya Bazalaki Suly who was also present at the launch revealed that the government has in a bid to better agriculture provided 2 improved sprayer kits to every sub county in the district, and 300 pieces of Cypher Lacer.

“These are not for sale. Farmers should get them at zero charge. It should be used to spray all pesticides affecting maize, potatoes, peas among others,” she said adding that extension workers have been posted to both parish and village levels to train farmers on how to use the new inputs.

David Opio and Bazalaki Noah, model farmers, asked the government to always deliver the inputs on time, and also find them market for their harvests.
