A police officer has shot dead his wife and later himself in an act that has left residents of Buwuni village, Bulesa Sub County in Bugiri district in shock.

The 34 year old Annest Kasadha attached to Buwuni Police Post Field Force Unit shot his wife Robina Achoket before turning the gun on himself.

According to the neighbors, the incident happened at around 4.30 am on 30th September when the police officer believed to have earlier had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend two days back returned home at around 12 p.m armed with two AK 47 rifles and entered the house before a quarrel ensued.

The quarrel is said to have lasted for over three hours according to neighbors.

According to the LC One Chairman, Buwuni B village, Rashid Zirisanga, the couple had earlier engaged in a quarrel after the man accused his wife of having a love affair with another police officer he did not disclose.

“The man came to me complaining that one of his fellow officers was trying to destabilize his family,” he said.

The two who have been renting a two roomed house just opposite Buwuni Police Post had been in a love relationship for just six months.

According to a police officer at Buwuni police post who preferred anonymity, the deceased who was on night duty  picked the two guns claiming he was going to check on his wife but was shocked when he heard gun shots moments later.

Police from Bugiri police post rushed to the scene and exchanged gunfire with the police officer who was locked up in the house for over thirty minutes.

A boda boda cyclist identified as Issa Mudungo who was passing by the main highway was reportedly shot by the deceased police officer who was trying to disperse some of his colleagues who were shooting inside the room.

The injured boda boda cyclist is currently admitted at Bugiri main hospital in critical condition with bullet wounds on the legs and abdomen.

43 spent bullet cartridges were discovered by police at the scene of the crime.

The officer in charge Buwuni police post, Dausi Ahebwa said investigations are under way to establish the exact cause as to why the deceased shot his wife and later took away his life.

He however could not rule out the possibility that the deceased shot his wife before taking away his own life as a result of a love affair gone bad.

“He had earlier complained to us that someone was encroaching on his wife and a meeting had been planned for Wednesday to meet both parties,” he said.

By press time, the bodies of the two had been taken to Bugiri main hospital awaiting a post mortem repor
