A Bugiri tycoon who was last month kidnapped by CMI impersonators has blamed police for releasing one of his kidnappers even after making a confession in police.

Speaking to our reporter at his home in Bugiri, Mausen Siragi said he wonders why the Regional Police for Busoga East released Waiswa Shafiki, a resident of Bugiri town whom he says was the master mind behind his kidnap with intentions of extorting money from him.

The Police Spokes Person for Busoga East, James Mubi said police played its part in arresting and processing files of the suspects to the State Attorney’s office for court prosecution.

“Why blame us yet we are not responsible for the suspect’s release,” Mubi said.

Waiswa Shafiki was arrested together with Bidondole Abdu, 33, Bagidadi Yusuf and a UPDF deserter Samanya Reagan for impersonating as CMI and ISO operatives and carrying out illegal security operations where they kidnap and arrest people in Busoga region and in other areas with intentions of extorting money from them.

These were found in possession of bullets, forged Identity cards and introductory letters from CIM and ISO which they use for their dubious missions.

Waiswa’s accomplices were taken to court and are since facing trial. Bidondole Abdu and Bagidadi Yusuf are former crime preventers attached to Iganga CPS.

Mausen said in June 11, this year, he was kidnapped by these four accused persons on false accusations that he had stolen a vehicle registration number UAX 232N Benz from a businessman in South Sudan.

The incident happened in Bugiri town while the complainants together with some of his friends were seated in the very vehicle near Ndifakulya Catholic Church along Bugiri-Iganga High Way.

To his disturbance, Waiswa Shafiki a man he knows well as a close friend and one of his project beneficiaries was an accomplice of the people who kidnapped and later forced him into a ransom negotiation of Shs100m to set him free.

He said from Bugiri, he was put in the boot of his own vehicle and driven to Apac district and back to Bugiri district after agreeing on 5million shillings on top of surrendering one of his other vehicles.

According to Mausen, all the accused persons including Waiswa Shafiki made confessional statements of kidnapping and extorting money from him but he wonders why Police released Waiswa Shafiki.
