A brother to the Second Deputy Prime Minister has been dragged to court by a group of Nursery Seed Operators in Bugweri District.
Mr Kakaire Salim is being accused of failing to pay the Nursery Seed Operators Shs400m after obtaining their seeds under the Operation Wealth Creation Programme.
The Grade 1 Court in Iganga started hearing the case last week.
The complainants led by councilor Namudiba Faridha, told G1 Magistrate, Ndifuna Yenusu that Kakaire obtained their seedlings worth Shs400m in 2017 and supplied the same to local farmers in Bugweri district under the Operation Wealth Creation Programme. To their disappointment however, their money has not been.
The accused through his lawyer, Waiswa Fred from Kibedi & Co. Advocates doesn’t deny the accusations but instead attributed the problem to government for delaying to pay him even after he supplied seeds to farmers.
Basing on what the accused told court, the trial magistrate asked the State Prosecutor Agutu Beatrice to investigate the accused’s allegation pending mediation when court sits again.
The complainants said they are failing to run their homes because they invested all their money in their nursery beds.
