Councilors of Malaba Town Council have passed a resolution urging the government to elevate the town to a municipality status.
The councilors meeting at the Council chambers on Friday 7th August passed the resolution after a heated argument on whether Malaba town meets the requirement for a municipality status.
The motion was moved by Alex Ochil, a Councilor representing Obore Ward.
Ochil in his motion said that the population of Malaba town council has and is growing rapidly and therefore calling for a municipality status for improved planning and better service delivery for the border administrative unit.
It was further suggested that they consult with the neighboring administrative units like Mella Sub County and Morukatipe Sub County so that some areas can be annexed to the proposed municipality.
Kalami Assa, the outgoing LC3 chairperson said that instead of creating more constituencies that will not benefit the local person it’s better to create administrative units that will bring services to the population.
He called upon different stakeholders to support the elevation of Malaba town council to municipality status.
Francis Orono, the outgoing town clerk asked the councilors to expedite the process by collecting signatures from the electorates that can be presented to the ministry of Local Government.
