Man Slips, Drowns Into Swamp While Fishing

Tragedy befell residents of Naigombya village, Nakalama Sub County Iganga when a 34 year old fisherman drowned into a swamp as he attempted to throw a hook on Thursday 5th September.


The deceased, Musa Kadhaya reportedly drowned into the swamp after slipping off in the process of throwing a hook in order to trap fish.


According to an eyewitness, John Musiho, the deceased who had stood at a slippery end of the swamp following a heavy downpour tried to throw the hook into the deeper side of the swamp but unfortunately drowned.


His body was discovered three hours later following a search mounted by locals and fellow fishermen.


The deceased is survived by ten children and two widows.


The LC one chairman Naigombya village, Abubaker Muyinda said this is the second person in less than one month to drown into the same swamp after stepping at the same slippery end.


The District Police Commander (DPC) Iganga, Davis Ndawula said the body of the deceased had been given to relatives for a decent burial.


He cautioned fishermen to always be vigilant and wear life jackets when they are moving on the lake or be accompanied by people who can offer assistance in case of any emergency.
