Science Teachers under their umbrella, Uganda Professional Science Teachers union (UPSTU) yesterday afternoon 9 may 2022 protested over their long awaited salary increment.

In the statement made by Teachers while holding their peaceful demonstration in mbale city, Science Teachers claim that they are forgotten by the rulling government because they started this cries of salary increment sometime but up now they are still waiting but all in vain.

Twahiru Musiranu, the  chairperson UPSTU Eastern says they are holding the demonstration because  the ruling government  responds faster to demonstrations.

“We have decided to put our tools down untill the government responds to our cries.” They said.

“Our Doctors protested and they were sorted, Agriculture officials got theirs so who are we?” Musaniru asked.

He adds that Minister for public  service Muruli Mukasa wrote to them requesting them not to hold the demonstration as they work on their issues but they rejected because they have over fooled them.

Nabirye Zeulia a biology and chemistry teacher and at the same time secretary general UPSTU Bugisu region says she will not step to class if the increment is not made.

“I rather stay home and dig for my family because am not benefiting from the little salary we get from the government,” Nabirye said.

However when we visited some schools, the turn up of science Teachers was very low others completely absent.

Kawanguzi Abubakali, head teacher Nkoma secondary school says the turn up of his science Teachers has been poor but he referred it to being an opening day for the second term.

He also appealed to them to come back and teach because the lock down greatly affected learners so as to complete the syllabus in time.
