Pastor Steals From UPDF Senior Officer, Sentenced To One Year In Jail

Lft. Grace Kafuko attached to Gadaffi barracks, owner of stolen spare parts

IGANGA: A pastor who stole motor vehicle spare parts from a vehicle belonging to a Senior UPDF soldier has been sent to jail.

Pastor Dan Baliraine of Prayer Centre in Iganga was on Friday 3rd May found guilty of stealing spare parts belonging to a vehicle number UAH 582M Taxi for Lt. Grace Kafuko attached to Gadaffi barracks.

Grade 1 Magistrate, Ndiwalana Yusufu found him guilty of the offence after these spare parts were recovered from his vehicle registration number UAL 280H.

Ndiwalana sentenced him to a one year jail sentence or a fine of Shs5m.
The case was registered at Iganga CPS as CRB 2531/2010. According to the charge sheet, Lt. Grace Kafuko parked his vehicle at Tip Top Hall where the Pastor also had his church after it developed a mechanical problem.

However, when he went to pick the vehicle he found the gear leaver and engine missing. These missing parts were later recovered in a vehicle registration number UAL 280H taxi belonging to Pastor Dan Baliraine.

Lt Kafuko reported the matter to Police but it took about 10 years of this case rotating between Iganga CPS, Jinja CPS and Kampala.

The case was finally rested after Pr. Baliraine fumbled in court about the said spare parts and matters became worse after one of his daughters pinned him about the said spare parts.
The State Attorney, Jagenda Davis said Pr. Baliraine is supposed to face a jail sentence of 1 year or cough about 5 million shillings to Lt Kafuko.

“Am happy for the court’s ruling, it has taken me 10 years to get this justice. Am a UPDF officer and therefore I ask fellow officers especially at my rank and above to always be patient and loyal to the Constitution of Uganda, otherwise I would have taken a bad step against Pastor Baliraine,” said Lt Kafuka.
