Soroti City Authority Orders 70 Percent of Staff to Work From Home

SOROTI CITY
Soroti City Authorities has directed 70% of its staff to work at home in a bid to suppress the surge in COVID -19 cases in Offices.
In a letter dated 7th/June/2021 to all Staff Soroti City Authority, the Acting Soroti City Town Clerk Moses Otimong notes that, in order to implement the Presidential Directives issued by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the fight against COVID – 19 only 30% of staff will be allowed at work for 42 days.
“As you are aware the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday 06th June 2021 issued directives for immediate compliance towards the fight against COVID -19, in that regard this serves to notify you that only heads of departments, The Mayor and Members of the Executive will be allowed at City headquarters,” Wrote Otimong.
Some of the directives issued by President Museveni on Sunday included; ensuring the 30% of staff to offer essential services while encouraging to work at home, ensuring staff rotation, avoiding crowding offices, markets and any other dwelling places, ensuring SOPs are complied with among others.
Otimong also added in the statement that, both the drivers and office attendants for both the Town Clerk and Mayor are retained.
When contacted if the rotational system won’t affect the service delivery to local persons, Mr. Otimong said that the staff that have been retained are capable of managing any crisis.
“People shouldn’t be worried, the staff we are having can manage the crisis,” Said Otimong during a phone interview.
He also added that due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country they are worried that if the authorities don’t comply, the situation will get out of hand.
He reveals that the current trend of COVID-19 is worrying with at least Soroti District registering a total of over 12 deaths in the last one month.
