Soroti Council Chooses Katine Over Arapai for New District Headquarters

Soroti district councilors have chosen to have the new district headquarters located at Katine Sub County, Soroti County.


The resolution was reached at yesterday 9th September 2021 in a heated debated that saw councilors torn between Katine Sub County and Arapai Sub County.


This was also first council sitting in the Lukiko Hall that was attended by different councilors who carried out secret ballot in order to come up with one location.


The secret ballot was necessitated after a tough debate amongst two sections of councilors who proposed the district headquarters to be taken to Arapai Sub County and those who opposed Katine Sub County.


Olebe Samuel, the district speaker resolved that the councilors vote secretly so that one decision would be made and it was later on agreed by the councilors.


Out of the 27 councilors who voted, 19 voted in favor of Katine Sub County and 8 voted in favor of Arapai Sub County.


The Soroti District CAO, Luke L.L lokuda who presided the voting process urged the councilors to work together and leave politics behind.


Hon. Patrick Aeku, the Soroti County MP who attended the council meeting as an ex official applauded the councilors for coming up with one decision and promised to work hand in hand with them for the betterment of the District.


He also added that he will work hard to see that Kamuda Health Center 3 gets elevated into health center 4.
