Teso Region Runs Short Of Covid – 19 Vaccines

Several Districts with vaccination points in Teso Sub region are turning away people who come for covid-19 jabs as the region runs short of the vaccine.

 

In Soroti regional referral hospital, people seeking vaccination yesterday 2nd June 2021were seen being turned away and advised to try next week because the facility had run short of the vaccines.

 

This was confirmed by Dr. Wilson Etolu, the Covid19 Focal Point Person for Teso Region who revealed to this reporter that the situation is all over Teso. He said if the vaccines arrive, they will announce but was not sure when that would be.

 

Following the advice and warning from the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday about the situation of covid19 in Uganda as the country enters the second wave, many people thronged vaccination points demanding to be vaccinated.

The willing demand from the community however as seen most facilities within Teso run short of vaccine this week.

 

Our reporter caught up with one Opio Stephen from Nakatunya who said he had turned up for the vaccine but was told by a clinical officer whom he found at the vaccine point that the vaccines are over until next week. Opio was seeking the first dose of covid19 vaccine.

 

COVID-19 in Uganda has exacerbated with a dire second wave of infections that has left hospitals overflowing while families scramble for increasingly scarce medicines and oxygen.

 

In March, Uganda received 964,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility, with 100,000 doses coming from India. Since March 10, about 647,357 people have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine according to the records available on the ministry of health website today the 2nd of June 2021.

 

Confirmed Cases (Only Ugandans) 47,761 Cumulative Ugandan Recoveries 43,401 Samples Tested 1,113,368 and 362 deaths.
