Traditional Herbalist Set Ablaze For Murdering Infant, Mother Suspected Of Collusion

BUGIRI: An angry mob in Kasongoile village, Nankoma Sub County in Bugiri District has lynched and burnt to death a 25 year old traditional herbalist.

The deceased, Alex Kabuzi was lynched by a mob armed with sticks and
stones on Thursday 16th May after locals discovered a body of a one and half year old baby dumped in a bush with its private parts missing.

The body of Henry Onyango was discovered dumped in a bush almost 100 meters away from the shrines of the deceased prompting locals to suspect him of being behind the murder.

The LC One Chairman Kasongoile Village, Joseph Ouma said the mob stormed the shrines after discovering that there was a body of the child near his shrine and dragged him out before lynching him.

Ouma said the deceased died moments later and the mob proceeded to set the body ablaze.

The District Police Commander (DPC) Bugiri, Jeff Sebuyungo cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their hands.

Sebuyungo also revealed that the mother of the child is being held to help police in the investigations.

“There are reports that the mother of the deceased was last seen with
the deceased shortly before the incident happened,” he said.

The kid had earlier disappeared on Monday 13th May after some unknown people picked it from the verandah where the mother had left him to attend to her garden in the backyard of their house.

By press time, the body of the traditional herbalist and the kid were still lying at Bugiri hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem report.

This is the third incident in less than two years that children are murdered and their private parts chopped off by people suspected to be traditional herbalists in Bugiri district.
