Two family members from Mushisha village, Lwaboba Parish, Bunabutye Sub County in Mbale district died on the spot after being knocked by a speeding vehicle at Mushisha village along Mbale Tororo road.
The deceased identified as Erisa Wandwasi, 17 years and senior six student at Busiu secondary school and Ezera Mandali, 27 years of age a boda boda rider were going for an Easter outing.
According to Sam Welikhe, an eyewitness, a Wish vehicle number UAU 140Q heading towards Tororo knocked the two on Sunday at 12.00 pm.
He adds that the two died on the spot after being knocked and getting internal injuries.
Polly Masaba, also a resident from the area says that the cause of the accident was over-speeding and reckless driving. He said the driver failed to control the vehicle ending up knocking the two who were moving on foot alongside the road.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Spokesperson confirmed the accident saying both bodies are currently at Mbale regional referral hospital for postmortem.
He also revealed that the vehicle which knocked the two is at Mbale Central Police Station for investigation but the driver is on the run.
