World Water Week Celebrations Kick Off In Eastern Region

The ministry of Water and Environment has kicked off the World Water Week celebrations in eastern Uganda districts of Soroti, Mbale, Bududa and Namutumba.

 

Mr Rwaka Pierre the manager Eastern umbrella who represented the ministry of water and environment called upon the pubic to conserve water and environment.

 

He also advised the public to stop cutting down of trees because it affects the environment.

 

He made this call while addressing the community and leadership of Namutumba district yesterday 18th March 2021 at Namutumba district headquarters during the world water week celebration.

 

He said that as the ministry of water and environment, their target is to provide affordable water services to the people, improve the natural resources use and to decrease on environmental degradation.

 

“We would like our communities to get affordable water service more so for those in urban centers who don’t have boreholes like in villages and at the same time protect the environment because it’s the biggest challenge we are facing,” Rwaka said.

 

He also said that by July, Namutumba will be the water supply centre to nearby districts.

 

 

“With water supply center in these areas there will be value to key growth to the community and that is what we are aiming for,” he said.

 

Rwaka appreciated the leadership of Namutumba district for the support and the work relations they have provided to the ministry.

 

“The work relation between ministry of water and environment with the district authorities has been good and we still call upon you to continue with the spirit of togetherness,” he added.

 

 

 

Mr. David Kigirige the (DSO) who represented the Resident District Commissioner namutumba district promised the ministry of water and environment to protect the environment and utilize water well.

 

 

Mwembe Godfrey, the mayor Namutumba district thanked the ministry for fulfilling the promise of providing clean water to Kayite health centre 11 at no cost and providing clean water to the 15 villages in Namutumba district.

 

“We appreciate the ministry for providing water to Kayite health center 11 which has been facing a lot of challenges when it comes to water,” Mwembe said.
