Lydia Wanyoto, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Flag bearer for Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament in the recently concluded general elections has run to court challenging the declared results.
Wanyoto who is also NRM Women’s League Chairperson lost to Connie Nakayeze Galiwango who garnered 40,500 votes against hers 25,700 votes.
While speaking to the media last evening 2nd March 2021 at Mbale high court premises after submitting her petition, Eddy Nagoli her lawyer said they have sued Electoral Commission for failing to conduct a free and fair election in which Galiwango was declared the winner.
He said the elections were full of voter bribery, ballot stuffing, beating up supporters of Wanyoto and election violence by supporters of Galiwango at places like Nauyo and Bukasakya.
Nagoli also says that based on the evidence they have gathered on video and pictures, they hope to win the case.
Lydia Wanyoto said that soon the case will be called for hearing but urged the court to exercise justice and nullify the victory of Galiwango or call for a vote re-count.
However, Connie Galawango Nakayenze the incumbent who won the elections declined to give a comment by press time saying she will comment after being served with the court summon.
