Police in Mbale has intensified its operations against bars that are operating against Covid-19 restrictions and regulations.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, Police on Sunday 28th February 2021 raided The Oak bar located in Namakwekwe, Northern City Division and arrested over 20 revelers.
He also revealed to this reporter that police followed up the operation on Monday in areas that included Republic Street, Cathedral Avenue, in Industrial City Division and at Busamaga and Nkoma in Northern City Division.
He adds that in the operation, over twenty people found drinking and those operating the bars were arrested but later released on police bond.
Taitika added further that they are working on the suspects’ files and they will soon appear in court to answer charges of flouting covid19 guidelines.
However, some of residents from Mbale City have accused police of being selective in the operation by leaving some bars that allegedly belong to big people in government to operate.
