IGANGA
The Bishop Central Busoga Diocese, Patrick Wakula has urged members of the clergy to embrace setting up income generating activities instead of entirely relying on church collections from faithfuls.
Wakula said church leaders should leave exemplary lives so as to earn respect from members of the public.
“People look at church leaders as being very highly placed people who should live a moderate lifestyle instead of only waiting for contributions made by the faithfuls,” he said.
He made the remarks while passing out 110 evangelical support team after successful completion of a one year course in global certificate in discipleship during a ceremony held at All Saints church CMS village Iganga yesterday 8th March 2021.
Wakula urged the newly commissioned evangelical support team members to balance between ministering the word of God and providing for their families to avoid conflict with their spouses.
“You should make sure that you put God first then your family in second position then the ministry last because more people are ready to take up that position,” he said.
He urged church leaders to always use friendly language while preaching to members of the public to ensure they attract new faithfuls after completion of the sermons.
“Try to be polite to the people you are talking to so that they are forced to join your faith instead of being rude,” he said.
Wakula attributed the increasing cases of corruption amongst most government officials to failure by people to appreciate whatever little they are given by God.
“Most of our people don’t appreciate whatever they get from God and are always crying of poverty,” he said.
He cautioned members of the clergy against exposing their political interests while on duty saying they are likely to be mistaken for being “spies”.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Iganga, Thomas Matende cautioned youths against being used by politicians to take part in violent riots saying they risk being arrested and rot in jails.
Matende urged youths instead to embrace government programs like operation wealth creation and EMYOOGA to uplift their household incomes.
He appealed to parents to play their cardinal role of sensitizing their children about the dangers of engaging in riots or protests instead of leaving the burden to the clergy or teachers in schools.
The Director Bible on Wheels, Moses Lyagoba said the organization is soon starting a three year diploma course in theological studies to reduce on costs people incur travelling to foreign countries seeking knowledge.
