News just reaching our desk indicate that the Chief of Defence Forces and Chairman of Patriotic League of Uganda, (PLU), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has withdrawn PLU’s endorsement of Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among for Speaker of 12th Parliament.

A media statement issued today, 12th May, 2026 by PLU’s General Secretary, David Kabanda says the initial endorsement given on 11th March, 2026 is hereby retracted.
Similarly, PLU’s endorsement for Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon. Thomas Tayebwa to retain his position is retracted.
In the 11th March, 2026 endorsement, Gen Muhoozi instructed all PLU leaning Members of Parliament- elect to support the incumbents to retain their seats.
“Accordingly the Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has guided as follows:
That the endorsement of Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and Rt Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively of the 12th Parliament vide a letter dated 11th March, 2026 is retracted and withdrawn with immediate effect,” reads Kabanda’s statement in part.
Kabanda says Muhoozi has instructed that PLU MPs elect to support candidates that will be presented to them by H.E the President for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
