Members of Parliament Elect Want Tororo District Split into Three

Municipality elevated to City

Tororo Municipality and the greater West Budama County Members of Parliament elect want Tororo district divided into three districts accompanied by a city status to help trigger development in the district.

 

The resolution was arrived at during a meeting organized by the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution over the weekend and attended by all MPs elect except the West Budama North constituency MP, Fox Odoi.

 

During the meeting, it was agreed that Tororo district be divided into three as follows; West Budama South and Central, West Budama North and North East, Tororo County  North and South while Tororo Municipality be elevated to a city status.

 

The meeting also called for elevation of Nagongera and Malaba town councils into municipalities.

 

According to Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution Prime Minister, Josel Obbo, who gave a brief of what transpired at the meeting, the MPs elect also called for unity amongst leaders irrespective of their political affiliation through extending a hand of friendship to their counterparts.

 

In line with infrastructure, the team called for tarmaking Nagongera-Busolwe-Namutumba road, Iyolwa road from Mile 11 to Mulanda-Nagongera-Paya Butaleja road, Malaba, Kwapa, Mayiro Aboro road and Mulanda-Buwesa-Namutumba- Iganga road.

 

In education, the leaders were encouraged by the cultural institution to work towards the elevation of Busitema university Nagongera campus into a fully-fledged national university.

 

Meanwhile the team also learnt that there is poor performance in Tororo schools with only few of them thriving and to solve this problem, the cultural institution encouraged the building ofstaff houses in all government schools, enforce feeding in all schools, build model secondary schools in each constituency and improve upon staffing of primary and secondary schools.

 

In health, the team resolved that the MPs should lobby government to elevate Tororo general hospital into a regional referral hospital to handle the ever increasing population.

 

In administration, the meeting resolved that more town councils be created mostly in West Budama North and North East that were not considered in past and this will come with the MPs lobbying the government.

 

In agriculture, the meeting called for the revampment of poultry and fish farming as a way of alleviating poverty in the district.

 

To further achieve all these intended developments, the Jago asked the empowered Tororians to come back and develop home after thriving in different spheres outside the district.
