Uganda Wildlife Authority ‘Arrests’ Two Killer Crocodiles

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has captured two killer crocodiles from Lolwe islands, Sigulu Sub County in Namayingo district.

 

The crocodiles were captured during a 12 hour operation mounted by the Uganda Wildlife Authority personnel at Singila along the shores of Lake Victoria yesterday April 14.

 

The in charge problem animals in the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Peter Ogwang said the crocodiles are suspected to have eaten 21 people since the beginning of this year alone.

 

The crocodiles; female and male weigh around 500 and 450 kilograms respectively and are believed to be between 35 to 40 years.

 

Ogwang said the female crocodile is 3.51 meters long while the male is 3.6 meters.

 

He said the capture of the crocodile follows numerous complaints from the area Member of Parliament, Bukooli Islands, Peter Okeyoh about the frequent attacks on the residents especially women who fetch water from the shores of Lake Victoria during late night hours.

 

In Busundya Landing Site alone over ten people have lost their lives after being eaten by crocodiles as they went to fetch water this year alone.

 

The LC one chairman Busudya landing site, Adiru Okello said majority of the victims eaten by the crocodiles are women.
