SOROTI CITY

Soroti City East Division Mayor shocked City authorities when he refused to turn up for his own swearing in at the City Hall.
Paul Omer was adamant he could not be sworn in at the City Headquarters yet his Councilors were to be sworn in at the Division Headquarters.
Omer who accused the organizing committee for not respecting him and other councilors was later dragged into the City Hall by the Soroti City RCC, Robert Adiama.
Adiama was forced to storm Omer’s residence after it dawned on him that the FDC stalwart was serious about snubbing the occasion.
Shortly after about thirty minutes, Mayor Omer was seen disembarking from the RCC’s vehicle wearing a very gloomy face. He took oath after the Soroti City Mayor, Joshua Edogu and Soroti City West Mayor, Peter Patrick Emaru had already taken their oaths.

Omer had originally wanted the organizing committee to revise its decision and have him sworn in at the Division Headquarters together with his councilors.
However, according to the program seen by this reporter, all Division Mayors were to be sworn in at the City Headquarters together with the City Mayor.
Isaac Elakuna, former Municipal Council Speaker and Campaign Manager for Omer echoed his boss’ sentiments saying Omer should have been sworn in at the Division.
The swearing in ceremony later went on smoothly followed by elections of Speaker and Deputy.

It was presided over by Acting Soroti Chief Magistrate, Margaret Aanyu.
Meanwhile, FDC’s Agonyo Trounced MP Ariko’s blue eyed boy, John Okwii Ekutelek of National Resistance Movement

Agonyo caned a total of 10 votes against 6 votes garnered by Okwii out of the total 16 votes cast.

The elections were headed by Soroti Chief Magistrate Margaret Aanyu.
While giving her remarks after polls, Her worship called on the Speaker to work closely with the members of council without party colours.
On her hand, Agonyo pledged to work closely with all councillors for the goodness of the people of Soroti.
