NGORA

As mystery continues to surround the Ngora Underground tunnels (Caves), the Ngora Resident District Commissioner is on spot for allegedly beating up the owner of the surface land where the mysterious underground tunnels were found early last week.

The tunnels were found by one Okello Augustine who was helping Odeke to dig a pit latrine in his surface land.

George Odeke the owner of the land where the underground tunnels/caves pass of Kokongo Parish, Kapir Sub County in Ngora District accuses Ambrose Onoria for beating him up.

“Am so disappointed with Ngora RDC he came to my home and beat me up alleging that am the one collecting people to my home and allowing them access the dangerous tunnels,” Said Odeke

He wondered as to why the RDC didn’t beat him for breach of the Presidential guidelines on prevention of COVID-19.

“I didn’t invite anybody to come here but people came on their own. Am not happy with what my RDC did and am calling upon human rights activists to come to my rescue. Am being threatened all the time,” added Odeke.

He also accused the RDC for allegedly accusing him of making money through charges mostly those who would want to enter the pit to tour.

One single person is said to be charged a minimum of 1,000 to 5,000 Uganda shillings in order to access the tunnels which Odeke disregards

But When Contacted the Ngora RDC Ambrose Onoria defended his actions saying being the head of security he couldn’t allow people to access those dangerous tunnels.

“Am the Resident District Commissioner in charge of security, I do not urge on Security matters and nobody can tell me what to do, I am the chief security officer. Anybody who feels I went out on what I did can decide to take me to court. I don’t give a damn,” Onoria said during a phone interview.

He added that, “It’s my job and I am doing my job. You cannot accept people to be going under the cave yet they don’t know what’s happening down there. I will be mad if anybody dies down there, I want to assure you I will be the first person to be arrested and taken to court if any person dies down there. Am even surprised that you had time to listen to them and call me, “Added Onoria.

  1. “I don’t Compromise standards. Am going to do the work I am meant to do and I will not compromise the standards of the law,” He concluded.

By press time there was no presence of Security to guard the tunnels

NEMA officials, according to the executive director Tom Okurut , are expected to visit the place this week.
