Soroti District Local government on the 8th July, 2021 launched the distribution of Hand Hoes to its residents.
The hoes distribution was flagged off at Katine sub county headquarters by the District Resident Commissioner Patrick Okumu, the district political head, LC-5 Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu and the district Chief administrative Officer Luke LL Lokuda, and other district officials of the production department.

However the RDC warned the intended beneficiaries against selling them off for alcohol, as it has been reported in some areas.
“I warn you, take these hoe home, use it purposely so as to increase production of food, this is from the government,” said RDC.
The distribution is already rolling out to other sub counties guided by the sub county leadership and office of the operation wealth creation.
Government through NAADS is distributing hand hoes to rural farming households in line with the agriculture sector policy of promoting food security. The initiative targets the distribution of six million hand hoes to subsistence farmers across the country.
Since financial 2016/2017, NAADS has distributed 1,220,000 hand hoes and now plans to distribute 2,500,000 in financial year 2020/2021
