The Family of Late Faustine Etilu has donated COVID-19 relief Items worth over 3.5 Million to Soroti regional referral Hospital in a bid to help rescue the patients admitted at the COVID-19 Treatment unit.

In November 2020, the Family lost their father Faustine Etilu to COVID-19 a thing that made them start an initiative to support the COVID-19 affected patients at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.

The family with a series of businesses in Soroti Town says the support will help motivate patients on Oxygen that there is always a second chance.

According to Bony Etilu, one of the family members, they have started the initiative to support the facility after learning that people living in the Treatment Centre are always being undermined and not supported.

Through the umbrella body Emorikinos to Fight COVID-19 with now over 33 members Bony Etilu believes that they are going to continue supporting the hospital monthly until COVID-19 is kicked out of the country.

Magret Etilu who also said that they decided to start an initiative after realizing that people who always test positive of COVID-19 are stigmatized with no help said their team now will help in restoring hope to those who have lost hope due to stigma.

“As a family we face a lot of stigma and people reject being with us and are aware that we don’t have counselors for COVID-19 recovered persons. So we have started this initiative to help restore hope,“said Mrs. Etilu.

She added that initially they had started as a family and they have now registered more members joining them.

“I would like to request that hundreds of people join us in supporting the COVID-19 patients,” She added.

Betty Atunyo, a clinical officer attached to the COVID-19 treatment team commended the team for supporting the unit revealing they will now help them in taking care of the patients admitted at the facility.

She has however called on the general public to support the facility saying the facility is overwhelmed with the number of patients and needs support both materially and financially.
