Security in Soroti Burn 10,000 Tons of Marijuana

By Nathan Eyagu

SOROTI

Security operatives in Soroti led by Patrick Okumu the RDC for Soroti District have burnt about 10,000 tons of marijuana at the Soroti District Headquarters.

The RDC who oversaw the burning yesterday 16th December 2021 said the marijuana that was confiscated early this year took long to be burnt because they were waiting for a court order.

It should be noted that the marijuana was confiscated by security operatives in Oculoi Sub County in Soroti District early this year in April 2021.

While addressing the media, Okumu said the drug was uprooted in a farm belonging to one Anthony Edel who is reported to be on the run following a decision that came up from the district security committee after realising that it was illegally planted.

He also added that the committee is still monitoring the situation in Oculoi Sub County after getting tips that the suspect is planting more hectares of marijuana.

Okumu also faced negative impacts of engaging with the owner of the marijuana after he insisted of not believing in NRM Government but only believes and serves in the Government of NUP headed by Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.
