As climate change Continues to be an issue in the regions of Teso and Karamoja, Teso Karamoja journalists under their umbrella organization called Teso Karamoja Media Agency – TEKAMA together with other well-wishers have joined hands to come up with an Environmental Run aimed at helping raise awareness on the devastating effects of climate change and to improve the tree cover in the region.
The Run dubbed Teso Environment Run 2022, is aimed at collecting funds that will go towards establishing woodlots in most schools around Teso, developing alternative energy sources, developing a climate master plan for Teso and establishing environment clubs in schools and help raise awareness in garbage segregation in Soroti City and major towns of Teso.
According to Julius Esegu, the Executive Director for TEKAMA while holding the first meeting yesterday Friday 07th at Soroti Lions Club, the Run is scheduled to take place on the 5th March, 2022.
The Run is the first of its kind organized by a team of Journalists in Teso sub region.
Esegu says he believes that the Run will greatly help in the restoration of the environment because it will help raise awareness on restoration of endangered indigenous tree species (particularly tamarind & shea nut butter trees) and greening of major towns in Teso
He further called upon other well-wishers and all leaders to come together and support the run.
