The Resident City Commissioner Soroti city Peter Pex Paak has halted a decision by Soroti city Town clerk Ambrose Ochen to close Princess Diana Health center 1V for three months as renovation work of the Outdoor patients department (OPD) kicks-on.

In a letter dated 7th March 2022, the Soroti city clerk Ambrose Ochen notified the general public that the renovation Of OPD block would commence on the 14th March 2022.

The letter said that the public seek medical services from other lower health facilities and Soroti regional referral hospital during the period in which the facility will undertake renovation.

According to Paak, the decision to close the facility for 90 days was inhuman and he cannot allow it to happen. He said that the medical staff at Princess Diana should continue with their work and also called on the community to go and seek services at the facility.

The RCC said that the decision was taken by the town clerk without consulting any person, not even meeting with the stakeholders.

Princess Diana Health center is also operating currently without the in charge since the City clerk Ambrose Ochen around mid-January 2022 relieved the then in charge Dr. Alfred Anyonga and directed a clinical officer to take over. The clinical officer however refused to go there on grounds that he cannot supervise his bosses.

Paak also said that the company contracted to undertake the renovations at the facility Innofit Company limited has not yet been cleared to start work since the solicitor general has not yet approved it.

“It’s an erroneous decision, he would have consulted with the stakeholders at the facility before closing it. He did not even guide the technical staff, ” he said.

While filing this story, the number for Soroti city clerk Ambrose Ochen was unreachable for a comment.

The Deputy City clerk Emmanuel Okaja however said he has not read any letter like that though he admits hearing about it.

“I am just hearing about that letter but I have not read it. I am his deputy, when I read it. I will be in a position to give you information” he said on the phone.
