Leaders in Kangole Sub County in Bukedea district have appealed to government through the office of the Resident District Commissioner to provide them with guns in order to enable them guard themselves against the Karamojong cattle rustlers.
This was revealed to this website by the Local Council III Chairman, Kangole Sub County, Mr. Michael Ocan yesterday 7th April, 2022 in an exclusive telephone interview.
According to Ocan who represents the views of the area leaders who had an emergency Council sitting on Wednesday, 6th April, 2022, the Karamojong warriors have attacked areas of Kangole parish, Amodingot and so far killed a total of four people in the community.
Ocan said waiting for the government to deploy army officers in the community will not help since government has got a lot of emergencies whereby after a short time, the army officers are withdrawn leaving the community insecure.
Ocan also argued that in order to ensure peace in the community, government should provide the community members with guns and training.
“Waiting for the government to deploy an army will not help, let the government avail us with guns to manage our security,” said Mr. Ocan.
Hajji. Imran Muluga, the Resident District Commissioner Bukedea during an interview confirmed receiving a call from the Sub County leadership requesting for guns.
He however, said the request is pending since according to the government laws, guns are only handled by responsible officers.
He said for a while, the community members should be vigilant of their security as government looks into the matter.
“I want to call upon everyone in the community to be security conscious, the government is committed to ensure that there is peace in the country,” said RDC Mr. Imran.
