MBALE CITY
Mbale City Authorities have closed a private clinic after an expectant mother was allegedly operated on by unqualified personnel leading to her death.
SPY Medicare Clinic located on North Road was closed last week after an expectant mother bled to death after an operation by health workers at the facility.
This was confirmed to this reporter by Dr. Moses Mugonyi, the Mbale City Health Director on Thursday.
Dr. Mugonyi said the deceased (names withheld for privacy reasons) died due to over bleeding caused by actions of health workers lacking the requisite skills.
James Kutosi, the Mbale City Spokesperson said that it’s unfortunate that the SPY Medicare clinic is not licensed by Mbale city authority yet it was operating.
‘’As Mbale City, we are going to launch an operation soon to close all clinics in the city which are operating without licenses,’’ Kutosi said.
Rogers Taitika, the police spokesperson of Elgon region also confirmed the incident saying that currently police is hunting for a one Titus Nabende and other staff members on duty that time.
He added that Mbale city authorities in partnership with police have closed the facility as investigations continue.
