Government has will not construct any Seed Secondary School in the newly created Sub Counties, Town Councils and Divisions.
This was revealed by Dominic Mafabi, the Minister for Elderly Affairs while reading a speech of the Minister of Education, sports and technology yesterday 28th April 2022.
Mafabi was representing the Minister at the commissioning of Buteza Seed School Located at Namugabwe Sub County in Sironko District.
According to Mafabi, government has plans of constructing 259 secondary schools under Seed school program to all sub counties without a secondary school as a way of uplifting education standards in the country.
He added that due to limited resources, government will construct those schools in phases with phase one having 117, phase two 115 then phase three will have 27 schools.
Mafabi however said that 259 Seed Schools will only be constructed in only old sub counties, town councils and divisions without a secondary school due to financial constraints.
Bernard Wetaka, the contractor while handing over the Buteza seed secondary school to the minister said government allocated 2.03 billion shillings for constriction of 12 classroom blocks and 6 teachers quarters which he says was successfully done in a period of one and half years.
Meanwhile, Moses Nambale, the Sironko District Education Officer said that most seed schools in the district have been allocated to the hard to reach areas.
He urged parents from sub counties which have benefited to take their children to study rather than ending in primary level like it has been due to travelling long distances to access secondary education.
Zadoki Guwondo, the head teacher of Buteza Seed Secondary urged government to stock more text books, deploy more teachers, and equip the laboratory to help them compete favorably in education with other schools nationwide.
