ALEBTONG
The authorities at Alebtong District Local government have started the mobilization and sensitization of local leaders across all institutions.
Spearheaded by the District Resident Commissioner, Robert Adyama Ekaju, the move is intended to empower and educate the stakeholders about their various roles in the implementation of Government Development Programs. This will in turn enable the beneficiaries to realize good outcomes of government programs.
According to Adyama, unless the leaders and the technical people first appreciate the programs, targeted beneficiaries will not be guided well and hence failing the programs.
The stakeholders include the local council one, two and three chairpersons and the technical staffs in the two local government Sub counties of Apala Town Council and Apala Sub County in Moroto County Alebtong District. Others include the religious, cultural leaders and heads of various institutions in the District.
The leaders were lectured on their various roles as stakeholders in the implementation of Government Development Programs like the Parish Development model strategy for service delivery, the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU), a Government of Uganda program supported by the European Union and Emyooga.
Local council leaders and other stakeholders were also reminded of their role in ensuring that there is peace and security at the community level.
Alebtong District was reported in 2020/2021 as the third last in Service Delivery in the Country, a reason as to why the District leaders and technocrats have embarked on mobilization and sensitization of Lower council leaders together with other stakeholders to create a mindset change.
The RDC tasked leaders to lead by example through having income generating activities and being food secure by adopting diversified Farming methods.
By the 29th April 2022, 8 Lower local Governments out of the 10 Sub Counties and 4 Town councils had been covered and a total of 150 local leaders were trained.
