Mbale City is now going to use digital technology in collecting street parking fees as a way of curbing down cases of people who abscond from paying.

This was revealed by James Kutosi, the Mbale City Public Relations Officer while officially handing over authority of street parking collection fees to the new contractor, Nalu Tour and Travel Limited at Mbale City offices on Friday, 13th May 2022.

Last month, Mbale city canceled the contract agreement of the Central Investment Agency which was responsible for collecting street parking fee for allegedly failing to remit money collected to Mbale city account.

According to Kutosi, they have provide digital machines to Nalu tour and travel limited for purposes of collecting the street parking fees.

He revealed that the machines will produce a receipt  to a Client only after paying the amount of money that particular vehicle is entitled to pay and will reflect on the system of Mbale city.

Kutosi also says that workers of Central investment agency have been using receipt books, ending up collecting money without their acknowledgement and then pocketing it.

The public relations officer also says that this digital system is going to boost local revenue collection in the city which has been low like in this financial year 2021/2022 they expected to collect 3 billion but they have so far managed to collect only 1 billion shillings.

Robert Luze Kamya, the managing director of Nalu tour and travel limited urged the public to embrace the digital system so that they can develop their City.

Suzan Nandutu and Samuel Madanda both residents from Mbale city embraced the digital technology system saying that sometimes they have been paying beyond two times in a day at different streets.
