MBALE CITY
Mbale high court has ordered Mbale city to compensate Central investment limited and to continue collecting street parking fees.
The ruling was read to both parties this evening by Elume Mawanda, the Mbale High Court Registrar.
Central investment limited sued Mbale city council for illegally terminating their contract of collecting street parking fee and giving Nalu travel and tour company the contract.
Mbale city accused central investment for failing to remit money collected to it’s accounts as agreed.
According to Eddy Nangula, the lawyer of Central Investment while speaking to media at court promises, based on the evidence they gave court about how they have been remitting money to council account and the illegal way of stopping them from continuing with their work, court allowed them to continue operating.
He adds that they are going to sit and decide how much money Mbale city must compensate them basing on damages they suffered.
Muhamed Wafuba, the managing director of Central investment limited expressed his happiness with the ruling saying that tomorrow they are going to resume their duties of collecting taxes of street parking.
He urged Mbale city Council to cooperate with them such that they can uplift this town.
Getting a comment from James Kutosi the Mbale city spokesperson was futile by press time after claiming he was busy attending a meeting.
In a subsequent attempt however, the City’s Deputy Town Clerk, Kenneth Khatuli told this reporter the City Authority will first consult with their lawyer before coming up with the next course of action.
Meanwhile, Luzy Kamya, the Managing Director of Nalu Travel and Tours Company has vowed to continue collecting Street Parking Fees arguing that they are legally contracted to do so.
