COVID 19 UPSURGE: Bugisu Registers 7 Cases as Nation Realizes 243 in Two Days

Uganda continues to register an upsurge in Covid-19 cases with the latest data on tests done on 7th and 8th June indicating a total of 243 cases.

 

The tests carried out on 8th June 2022 also saw Bugisu region registering 7 cases; 5 in Mbale and 2 in Bududa district.

 

According to the Ministry of Health press release, the breakdown of the latest tests are as follows; 117 Alerts and Contacts; Kampala (86), Wakiso (10), Mbale (5), Jinja (6), Rubirizi (3), Bududa (2), Kabale (2), Mukono (1).

 

Two truck drivers also tested positive; one at Busia border and another at Mityana.

 

The tests carried out on the 7th June 2022, registered even a higher figure of 124. In all the tests done since the upsurge early this month, Kampala is leading followed by Wakiso district.

 

The 7th June tests and results are broken down as follows; 124 Alerts and Contacts: Kampala (98), Wakiso (9), Rubirizi (5), Jinja (4), Gulu (2), Mbarara (4), Adjumani (1), Kabale (1).

 

Uganda has now registered 165,927cumulative confirmed cases since the outbreak.

 

On the 6th June 2022, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the Minister of Health said that the country has started experiencing an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 cases compared to the stable trends observed since January 2022.

 

“This increase is similar to the rise we faced in June 2021 when the Delta variant was prevalent.” Aceng tweeted.

 

The Minister however assured Ugandans that there are no plans of a lockdown or travel restrictions.

 

“As a country, we are well prepared to respond and save lives than before. We have no indication for travel restrictions, or lockdown in the current circumstances. We will optimize the existing control & mitigation tools at personal & community levels.” She said.

 

She reiterated the need for SOPs and other measures that include: vaccination for all individuals, wearing of face masks at all times especially for the vulnerable population and, hand washing.
