MBALE CITY
The Resident City Commissioner Mbale City has come out to clear the air on social media reports that he authorized the organizers of Elgon Festival 2022 to parade have naked girls in an Imbalu dance on Saturday 11th June 2022.
Ahamada Washaki speaking to the media yesterday Monday 13th June 2022 said he did authorize nudity to be part of the Festival.
Most City residents were left wondering how authorities could allow near nudity in broad daylight on the Mbale City Streets.
“We didn’t permit them to allow young girls to move naked in city.” Washakie said before adding that;
“We thought they were going to be disciplined and attractive to the tourists that would see and tour Elgon region like any other festivals happening in town.”
This is not the first festival to happen in Bugisu land of such a kind.
It also happened some time back and was organized by the Inzu ya Masaba during the regime of the late Sir Bob Mushikori when he was the Umukuka.
“We don’t support such situations where young girls are undressed and left to move naked in town.” Washakie emphasized.
He said they have called the organizers to explain how the Festival turned into a nude show.
“Presilla Mungoma and fellows, come out and answer as to why the festival was organized in that manner.” He called out to the organizers.
This happened despite the fact that the City has authorities like community development officers and probation officers who would look into such activities before being carried.
