TORORO
The Tororo county NRM branch has announced that the County has unanimously resolved to boycott the National women council elections as a move to avoid marginalization by the West Budama leaders at the district level.
In a press briefing yesterday, 20th June, 2022 afternoon at the party branch office in Tororo town, the branch chairperson Godfrey Othieno Otabong said that although they are going to participate in the women council elections, they will only end at the sub county level.
According to Othieno, each time they participate in joint elections with the people of West Budama County, no candidate from Tororo County goes through.
He equally asked the NRM secretariat to allow their office to manage the women council elections in Tororo municipality because many of the NRM supporters and candidates pay allegiance to their office compared to that headed by Joseph Kadoketch.
JJ Oburu the party branch registrar cites lots of controversies that come with managing elections at district level, a situation that he says has cost NRM a lot.
He also revealed that Tororo county people who contest under special interest groups have been severally thrown out by the electoral commission following the deletion of their names by the main NRM office.
Edward Okware the former Tororo municipality parliamentary candidate backed the proposal to have the county manage municipality elections citing the experience he got in the previous elections in the hands of officials in the Kadoketch led office.
Okware noted that Tororo municipality NRM elections are mismanaged right from nomination level to declaration stating that only those loyal to the party chairperson Apollo Yeri Ofwono are given consideration.
