The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for Gogonyo county by-elections in Pallisa district has withdrawn from the race.
Joseph Opolot Okoboi yesterday 7th,July,2022 announced his decision of withdrawing from the race allegedly after meeting with the Iteso cultural leader, his Highness Paul Sande Emolot.
ICU in a letter that made rounds in social media said that the National Unity Platform party candidate had agreed to withdraw from the race in a bid to promote peace, unity and stability of the region.
Okoboi in his statement to NUPs’ Secretary General confirmed his withdrawal from the race saying he did so after deep consultations with Iteso Cultural Union leader.
“I have deeply consulted with our Cultural Leader Emorimor Lo Iteso and my immediate family and agreed that in keeping our Cultural and social network, having valued my Political progress and balance, valuing my family and standing in Gogonyo County, I have opted out of the forthcoming elections due on August 11 on my own a free will,” reads the statement.
Gogonyo county seat fell vacant after the court of Appeal ruled that the incumbent, Mr. Orone, was irregularly elected following a petition by his rival, Issa Bantalib Taligola and the electoral Commission has set August 11 as day of polling.
