Bugisu Floods: Victims cry for government support

BY RONNIE WESWA

About 2000 people who were hit by floods in Mutufu and Budadiri town council in Sironko district during the recent heavy downpour want the government to support them with relief items like food, and tapelines among others.

They spoke this today [ 24 August] while receiving over 1,000 hand hoes worth Shs 11 million donated by the Budadiri east constituency MP Mr Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira.

Ms Justin Nabukwasi and Florence Mutonyi both from Bunatanyo cell, Kalawa parish in Budadiri town council said since they were affected by floods last month no relief has been given to them by the government.

“Floods destroyed all our crops, houses including domestic animals among other items and currently we are lacking what to eat and where to sleep, we need government help,” said Ms Nabukwasi.

Ms Sarah Nandudu also from Nandele ward Mutufu town council also says that the district leaders came and assessed the damages but when relief food came it was only taken to Masaba Sub County where landslides took place.

Mr Sasaga, the Member of Parliament said he presented the report to the ministry of disaster preparedness and urged the people to go slow as the government is planning to come to their rescue.

He urged them to make use of the hoes he had donated to them to grow more crops for domestic use and to stop crying for help. Ends
