The Commissioner in charge of Clinical Services, Dr. Jackson Amone has officially retired from service.
Dr. Amone this morning, 25th August 2022 handed over office to Dr. Rony Bahatungire who will serve in Acting Capacity.
This was revealed in the Ministry of Health official Tweeter handle just a few minutes ago.
“He diligently served in the health sector for over 25 years.He hands over office to Dr. Rony Bahatungire who will serve in Acting Capacity. Enjoy your retirement, Dr. Amone!” Read the brief statement.
Amone has been the Commissioner for Clinical Services since 2017. His major responsibilities included; supervising the medical interns and coordinating the Uganda Medical Board. He was also the Co-Chairperson, Case Management Pillar in the COVID-19 Response.
He obtained a Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from Makerere University, a Diploma in Public Health, Masters in Medicine and Master’s degree in Business Administration from ESAMI/Maastricht School of Management.
He worked as a Medical Officer at Lacor Hospital and Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Senior Medical Officer at Kasese District Local Government, Medical Superintendent of Bwera Hospital, Medical Officer Special Grade (Public Health) and an Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Curative Services.
During the Ebola Epidemic in Bundibugyo District in 2007, he was assigned as a National Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF)/Field Coordinator. He also acted as the Medical Superintendent of Bundibugyo Hospital during the same period. This earned him a promotion to a position of Consultant of Public Health in 2008. He coordinated a number of responses to epidemics, accidents landslides and fires.
In July 2014, he led the team of Ugandan health workers to join in the fight against the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) pandemic in West Africa and was based in Sierra Leone for a period of one year. He worked under the World Health Organisation (WHO) and later with United Nations Mission for Ebola Epidemic Response (UNMEER) as the Co-Pillar Lead for the Case Management Pillar in the National Ebola Response Committee (NERC).
