MBALE CITY
Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health is planning to increase the money it allocates to CURE children’s private hospital starting next financial year.
This was revealed by Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health while launching a modern Intensive Care Unit at CURE children’s hospital located at Industrial Division in Mbale City, on 22nd September 2022.
Dr. Atwine said increased funding of CURE Children’s Hospital will help de-congest Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
Cure Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the whole of East Africa that provides specialized treatment of children with hydrocephalus, brain tumors, and spina bifida. These days however, it also provides other services to both children and adults privately.
She said government has been supporting the hospital with Shs20M per Financial Year for purposes of feeding health workers and paying their allowances.
She said in the coming Financial Year, government shall increase the funding such that the hospital can have capacity to handle a larger number of patients with different cases.
Connie Galiwango Nakayenze, the Woman MP for Mbale city also urged the government to upgrade Busiu health center IV to hospital status, increase more staff and drugs at health center IIIs as another way of decongesting Mbale referral hospital.
Emanuel Wegoye, the medical director of Cure children’s private hospital expressed his happiness with the pronouncement of the Permanent Secretary saying this will reduce congestion at Mbale regional referral hospital.
He adds that they used over 100 million to construct and equip the new Intensive Care Unit saying that this will improve on services at the hospital.
