A 30 year old Senior Four candidate sitting her exams at St. Francis S.S. Kawempe has been sentenced to two (2) months imprisonment or a fine of Shs200,000.
Rebecca Munyeretsi was sentenced on her own plea of guilty by the Nabweru Grade 1 Magistrate, His Worship Kibuuka Christian yesterday, 1st November 2022.
Munyeretsi, 30 years, is a private candidate, who registered for UCE at St. Francis S.S. Kawempe.
Munyeretsi pleaded guilty of hiring the services of an impersonator to write for the examination on her behalf.
The magistrate said he gave a lenient sentence based on a number of reasons; including but not limited to the fact that the accused pleaded guilty on her 1st appearance and therefore did not waste court’s time;
Besides, she has missed out on an entire academic year, was remorseful and her parents had already lost money in terms of school fees, which will not be recovered.
He also said court considered the period she had spent on remand and the fact she is still young and capable of reforming.
The 2nd accused in the case, Ms Nanteza Milly Matovu, the HM of St. Francis is still out on bail and will appear in court on December 5, 2022.
