The Vice President, H.E Jessica Alupo who also doubles as Katakwi Woman Member of Parliament has flagged off the construction of a 28km road worth Shs50m funded by Katakwi district that stretches from Usuk to Ongongoja sub-county in Katakwi district.
During the launch that was witnessed by different leaders in katakwi district and the community, on 11th November 2022, the residents appreciated the district leadership for taking the move of constructing the road that they believe will bring development and ease movement of people.
According to Andrew Echatu, the Katakwi District Engineer, the 28km road will help boost trade and movement of the residents as it has been hindering development from the time it was washed away by the heavy rains.
Joseph Echuman, the LCV vice chairperson of Katakwi District, said the road will open up trade opportunities between the neighboring Kotido and Katakwi once it’s complete.
He further urged the road users to use the road well.
“The road has been a big concern to the people when it rains, it makes things hard for the people, cuts off the movement of children to school, there are many community roads that need to be handled, I urge the engineer to visit the most damaged roads so that they too can be fixed,” Alupo said while addressing distinguished guests while at Ongongoja secondary school in Katakwi district where she was commissioning a six classroom block.
The Vice President also added that once the road is complete, it won’t only ease transport but also boost trade.
